Programme of Rambles / Events for Autumn 2017

(Items for the next programme by early November please)

This year the AGM will take place on Saturday 21st October at 4 pm in St Mary Moorfields Church Hall 4 - 5 Eldon Street EC2M 7LS.  All the Club Secretaries and the Treasurer will make a report at this meeting and will follow the same formula used at past AGMs. As per the Club Constitution a chairman/woman will be elected to chair the meeting in the event that the president cannot attend the meeting. The one item on the agenda which should deeply concern all Club members who are at all worried about the Club's survival is the election of a new committee. 'No Committee No Club'

Below is a nomination form on which members can be nominated for membership of the committee.  Each nomination form must be signed by a person nominating a member, a person seconding the nomination and the person being nominated.  Forms that do not have all three signatures will not be presented to the AGM.  New members would also be welcome'

A motion will be put before the AGM to update the Club's constitution so it

complies with the Equality Act 2010.  It is also proposed to increase the cost of membership from the current £7 to £10.  A motion to this effect will also be put before the AGM for their approval.  For more information see the inside pages of this newsletter.

Annual General Meeting - Saturday 21st October

On this day, hopefully, the Club will be electing a new committee.  If you have not served on the Club committee before, even if you are a fairly new member, please give it serious consideration.  The future of the Club depends upon it.  Remember no committee no Club.

The front page contains a nomination form.  Please nominate yourself if you wish to make a genuine contribution to the survival of the Club by filling in your name.  Alternatively you can nominate another Club member but be sure to get  his or her permission first.

The AGM will start at 4pm with tea/ coffee and biscuits available beforehand. The AGM will be followed by Mass at 6pm.

The following changes to the constitution are proposed:

2:  Membership of the Club shall be open to Catholics and those who accept the Catholic ethos of the Club.

4:  The object of the Club shall be to promote social intercourse amongst

the Members in a Christian atmosphere by means of rambling.

2a:  The last sentence to read: "At least four Committee Members will be practising Catholics"  This will ensure that, with the President, the majority will be Catholic.

A further motion will be put before the AGM to increase the Club subscription from the present subscription of £7 to £10.  If passed this will come into force

in the 2018-2019 Club Year.

A copy of the current constitution is available by request on line or by emailing

the secretary.

Annual Subscription Reminder

This is a reminder that the Club annual subscription of £7 is due in October.  This can be paid at the AGM.  The membership of members who do not pay

by the 31st of December will be deemed as lapsed.  It can also be paid by post by sending a cheque for £7 made out to St Francis of Assisi Catholic

Rambler's Club to the treasurer John Burbage, Address and phone number as on the printed programme.  email:  turbo.johnb@gmail

News and Events September to November 2017

Saturday 30th September   Club Reunion at 12.30pm.

Dear Friends,

Once again, thanks to Fr Chris, our Annual Reunion will take place at St. Mary

Moorfields, Eldon St, .London   EC2 on Saturday 30th September at 12.30pm.

This is always a happy occasion in the life of the club when all members – past, present and prospective can come together to socialise, exchange news, meet old friends, make new ones, reminisce, revive old memories etc. in the place where it all began 87 years ago. Some may wish to bring photos, memorabilia etc.

We will, as tradition has it, bring a little food to share, so that we can enjoy a light buffet lunch in a very congenial atmosphere.

Bread, tea, coffee and table ware will be provided.

We very much look forward to meeting everyone.

Those members who are unable to attend, are invited to send us news items, messages etc., beforehand to:

Members usually go for a meal afterwards.  This year we will also be still remembering those who died during the Great War of 1914 -1918.

RAMBLE LIST September to November 2017

Following on from the splendid efforts of leaders in the summer programme they have, once again, provided a very good selection of rambles. Bearing in mind Paul Brunning, David Crundall, and myself, were out of action for quite some time it shows what some members are capable of when the cry goes out

They are true exemplars of what the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Ramblers stand for. What is stopping any other able bodied members from becoming one of these exemplars??

Lead thou kindly light: The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness will be upon us and then the shortening days of winter. Please bring out your torches from wherever they have enjoyed their summer repose and carry them with you as leaders may not always be able to arrive at the finishing point before darkness descends.
