On Saturday 14 October Kevin McNamara led a walk from Herne Bay to Birchington on Sea. The ramble had been advertised in the Autumn Programme as follows:

 

SATURDAY 14th October    Leader: Kevin MacNamara   (Landranger map 179)

Meet:  Victoria 0910 for the 0937 train to Herne Bay (arr 1106)

             Ramblers can also take the 0927 High Speed train from St Pancras International

              calling Stratford International 0934 and arriving Herne Bay 1044.

Lunch:  The King Ethelbert Inn, Reculver

Tea:    Minnis Bay Bar and Brasserie.

Distance:  8 miles returning from Birchington-on-Sea. The walk is on mainly level ground

                 along promenade/sea wall with one stairway/steep slope

Kevin and Margaret had painstakingly walked out the route and Margaret kindly provided me with photographs they took on the walkout. In addition Sheila attended the walk on the day and also took some photographs.  All the photographs are below, beginning with thos taken on the walkout.

The wonderful life size monument to Amy Johnson waserected in 2016 to mark the 75th anniversary of her tragic seath. Herne Bay was identified as the area wher she died but her body was never found.
