Joe O'Reilly Joined the club in 1972 and led his first ramble on 31 March 1974. That ramble began at Amersham and was the first of several rambles led by him. At that time the club published a Magazine which Joe took his turn at editing. The editor of the magazine held a place on the committee and committee members were required to stand down at the end of one year and could only be re elected if there were no other members prepared to stand for election. Aside from his time on the committee he contributed generously to the club's social life and he hosted many poetry evenings which many of us attended and Joe was very good at encouraging those present to read a poem and occasionally some members would sing a song. He also attended poetry readings hosted by other members and duly read poems of his own choosing. Towards the end of his life he moved to live in Ashford, Kent where he had premises near some of his relatives. May he rest in peace or as he would say in his beloved Gaelic er dheis De go meach a anam. If any other members would like to share their own memories of Joe please e mail them to me at tony@tfinnegan.me.uk.
