Phew! We have a complete summer programme thanks to all the regular contributors and a special thanks to David Crundall for leading a walk for the first time.

Sunday 31st May                              Leader: David Crundall ( OS map Landranger 168)

Meet       :  Liverpool Street 0910 for 0932 train to Kelvedon (arr 1027)

Train also calls Stratford 0939 – various Tube, DLR, and Overground connections

Lunch     : Chapel Inn, Coggeshall

Tea         : Sun Inn - near Kelvedon station

Distance : 9 mostly level miles returning from Kelvedon

Fare       : £14.65 Super Off-Peak Day Return with Network Railcard

Sunday 7th June                                           Leader: Martin Harrisson  (OS maps 176 & 177)

Meet        : Liverpool Street 1000 for the 1022 train to Turkey Street (arr 1045)

Train also calls at Seven Sisters 1034 (Victoria Line) NB Although this train is shown in the printed programme information received since the programme was printed indicates that it might be necessary to take a slightly earlier train at 10 15. This would enable the ramble to start at around 10 50.

Lunch      : Brown's Garden Centre - Crews Hill

Tea         : Trent Country Park, Cockfosters or Ferny Hill Farm

Distance : 9.5 miles returning from Cockfosters – Piccadilly line zone 5

Fare        : One day travelcard up to or oyster card option. Free if you have a freedom pass.

Sunday 14th June                                                      Leader: Paul Connolly.  (OS map 178)

Meet       : Fenchurch Street 0920 for 0940 train to Pitsea (arr 1018). Train also calls at  West Ham 0949 Tube and DLR services and Barking - Tube and Overground services

Lunch      : Leigh-on-Sea old town - plenty of options

Tea         : Maybe at Benfleet.

Distance: 11 miles returning from Benfleet - four trains per hour back to London

Level in the morning and in the afternoon we climb up to Hadleigh castle before descending into Benfleet. Subject to tides we may go via Two Tree Island in the morning.

Paul will join the train at Upminster.

Fare: £7.90 cdr Benfleet with NSE discount.

Meet       :  King's Cross 0930 for 0953 to Baldock (arr.1030)

Lunch     : The Cricketers ,Weston.

Tea        :  The White Lion/Taste Café Bar, Baldock.

Distance  : 8 miles returning from Baldock.

Fare       : £8.25 with Network Rail Card.

Sunday 28th June                                                       Leader: Maurice Hickman.  (OS map 187)

Meet        : Victoria at 0935 for 10.02 train to Redhill (arr. 1034)

Lunch      : Sportsman, Mogador

Tea         : Fanny's Farm Shop

Distance : 12 miles, returning from Redhill

Fare        : £7.40 with Network Card

Sunday 5th July                                                         Leader: John Burbage  OS map 187

Meet      : Victoria 0900 for the 0923 train to East Grinstead (arr 1017)

Lunch    : The Cat Inn - West Hoathley. Very good food and beer but can be expensive. Soup, sandwiches and light mains also available. There is a green nearby to eat packed lunches.

Tea         : Possibly near East Grinstead.

Distance : 11 miles with some hills.

Interesting rock formations and views of the Bluebell Railway en-route.

Fare        : £9.85 Off-peak return from East Grinstead with Network Card

 

Sunday 12th July                                                                    Leader:  Henrietta Van Zaelen

Meet        : Crouch Hill Overground station at 10.30hrs

Short bus ride from Finsbury Park using W7 service.

Lunch             : White Swan Wetherspoons, or choice of cafes Upper Street Islington

Tea         : Possibly Victoria park

Distance : 9 miles returning from Limehouse station (DLR or mainline)

 

Sunday 19th July 2015                                         Leader: Maurice Hickman (Explorer Map 123)

Meet      : Victoria at 0920 for 0947 train to Eastbourne (arr 1109)

Lunch     : Tiger Inn, East Dean


Tea         : Birling Gap


Distance : 12 miles, returning from Eastbourne.

Fare        : £20.75 with Network Card

There may be a chance of a swim at Birling Gap if weather is fine.  Some steep climbs in the morning and afternoon but buses available at all stops en route.

Sunday 26th July                                                       Leader: John Burbage  (OS map 187)

Meet       : Waterloo 0910 for 0932 train to Effingham Junction (arr 1024) via Epsom.

Lunch      : The Cricketers, Downside. Friendly pub with good food but expensive.

Seating available around the cricket pitch for those with packed lunch.


Tea         : Possibly The Star, Patchesham.  


Distance : 10 miles, returning from Ahstead.

                  Change for 11.26 train to Bosham (arr 1132)

Lunch      : Anchor Bleu – Bosham

Tea         : Chichester Marina

Distance : 12 miles returning from Chichester

Lunch      : The Bell Aldworth – no hot food but good filled rolls and puddings.

Tea          : Goring on Thames

Distance  : 12 miles returning from Goring and Streatley.

Distance : 9.5 miles returning from Hayes

              Free for Freedom pass holders. Paul will meet the ramblers at Hayes

 

Saturday 29th August                                              Leader: Robert Slater. ( Explorer map 192) Meet        :  Euston 0850 for 0913 train to Bletchley (arr 0949).

                   Change there for 1005 to Ridgmont (arr. 1023).

Lunch      :  Woburn. Plenty of choices.

TEA: The Rose & Crown, Ridgmont.

DISTANCE:  10  miles returning from Ridgmont.

FARE: £14.65 to Ridgmont with Network Card. We shall be crossing Woburn Safari Park and Deer Park. Expect to see deer, elephants, giraffes, camels and other wee creatures. Safari ranger Robert will meet intrepid walkers at Bletchley.

 

Monday 31st August (Explorer Map 174).                Leaders Virginia & Roger Yelland.

Meet        : Liverpool Street  0900 for 0925 train to Harlow Town (arr 0955).

                  Train also calls at Tottenham Hale 0937 (Victoria Line).

Lunch     :  Roydon  - various options.

Tea         : Burnt Mill Lock.

Meet                :Victoria at 0940 for 1002 train to Redhill (arr. 1034)

Lunch             :The Plough, Leigh. NB This is the Plough SW of Reigate,

                          (as the more experienced pub-going ramblers will know there is

                          another Leigh west of Tonbridge, which also has a Plough! but if                                                       you go there you will not see Maurice and the St Francis                                                                   Ramblers!!!!)

Tea                  :The Sun (Wetherspoon), Redhill

Distance         : 12 miles, returning from Redhill

A & B Pilgrimage Walks

As part of the pilgrimage from Chertsey to Arundel(Saturday 15th to Monday 31st August) Francis will be leading a walk from Dorking to Redhill and Maurice from Redhill to Worth Abbey on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th of August.  Anyone is welcome to join the pilgrims for all or part of these or the other walks on the pilgrimage.  Further information on the times that pilgrims will be at various places will be available nearer the time i.e. by the first week of August.  More information available at  www.thepilgrims.org.uk

Therèse Mary O'Brien R.I.P.

It is very sad to have to report the death of Therèse O,Brien (normally known as Theresa by

other Club members).  She had been a member of the Club up to the time of her death on 23rd February 2015.  Her funeral Mass was at the Church of the Holy Name in Chelmsford and her body was taken for committal at Chelmsford Crematorium.  Please remember Theresa in your prayers.

Louis Finnegan R.I.P.

Please remember Tony's brother Louis who lived in Wexford and died on March 23rd 2015 in your prayers.  Louis was instrumental in helping to develop the Club website.

June 10-13 Spirit in the City

Spirit in the City is a celebration of faith in the heart of London, hosted by the Catholic churches in the West End.  The annual festival aims to share the Good

news of Christianity, and welcomes people of all faiths, ages and walks of life in

the middle of the entertainment district.  It gives an opportunity to raise deeper questions of life.  We are all searching for new ways to connect with God and others

around us.  The events feature live music, workshops, talks, opportunities for prayer, reflection and reconciliation.

Thursday 11th June

Our Lady of the Assumption & St. Gregory Church, Warwick Street.

12.45  Mass 13.15-1800  Sanctuary in the City - Eucharistic Adoration in the church throughout the day.  14.30-15.30 Workshops

19.00  Celebration of the Mass with Bishop Nicholas Hudson

Street Celebration with live music, refreshments and entertainment.

Friday 12th June     St Patrick's Church, Soho Square   12.45  Mass

13.15-18.00  Sanctuary in the City - Eucharistic Adoration in the church throughout the day.  14.30  Street outreach in Soho

19.00  Worship talks and testimonies  2015  Eucharistic procession from Corpus Christi Church followed by night prayer and benediction.

Friday 3rd - Sunday 5th July The Festival 50 Jubilee Pilgrimage

This is a Celebration Pilgrimage.  In 2015 the diocese of Arundel and Brighton is organising a major event in the Amex football stadium near the village of Falmer

in West Sussex on Sunday 5th of July at which both Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor (formerly bishop of  Arundel and Brighton) and the previous Archbishop

of Canterbury Rowan Williams will be attending.  The new Bishop of Arundel and Brighton Richard Moth will be walking with us as far as the lunch place, The Gun Findon, on the first day. Cost just £50.  More info. from www.thepilgrims.org.uk
