News and Events

John Burbage has taken over from Gillian McLauchlan as treasurer of the Club.  We thank Gillian for the service she has rendered to the Club over the many years she has been its treasurer. We welcome Maria Vaz who will be serving for the first time on the committee.

Thank You: "Anna Trugsnath would like to thank all those who sent get well wishes when she underwent an operation recently.  Your kind thoughts were very much appreciated."

AGM Saturday 24th October 2015

At the meeting we discussed the shortage of members willing to lead rambles and ideas for advertising the Club to get more members.  Although there were about 28 members present at the meeting the motion to reduce the membership fee for members who receive the newsletter by email was not carried as the numbers for the motion was not much more than the numbers against.  A committee of 7 members was elected consisting of 4 men and 3 ladies.  A vacancy now exists for another lady to come on to the committee.

Is there another lady out there, new or old member, who is prepared to offer her services to the committee? The tasks are not onerous and we meet just 4 times a year at one another's houses where we are often treated to a most generous helping of food and drink.

Secretary's Report

During the past year Club holidays have been organised to Walsingham and Glastonbury.  A few members also did a trek from Santiago Compostella  to Finisterre and Muxia and back.  Several Club members also went on the Arundel and Brighton Ecumenical Walking Pilgrimage around the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton starting at Chertsey and finishing in Arundel.

Since the committee was formed last year we have lost one member. I hope that we can still elect a new committee so that walks can continue to be led into the future but this depends on new people coming forward to serve.

We have now 54 people who receive their newsletter by email. This greatly reduces the outgoing expenses of the Club and also means that the committee have to spend less valuable time filling envelopes with newsletters.  The committee actively encourages more people to receive their newsletters by email
