This popular walk was advertised in the club's summer 2016 programme as follows:

  

Sunday 24th July.                                      Leader: Robert Slater (OS Map 166)

Meet               : King's Cross 09.30 for 0952 to Stevenage (arr.1016)

Lunch              : The Bull, Whitwell.            

Tea                 : Hitchin

Distance         : 13 miles returning from Hitchin.

Route crosses Knebworth House deer park and the late Queen Mother's estate. Aim to say prayer in front of stained glass window of St.Francis in church where she was baptised.

Fare : £8.30 Hitchin return with Network Rail Card. Robert will meet the ramblers at Stevenage.

 

Antoinette Adkins once again did the honours with her trusty camera and has provided us with the following amazing selection of photographs. Tgere are also some taken by the leader himself interspersed between Antoinette's.

Knebworth was the venue for famous outdoor rock concerts in the 1980s and hosted a broadcast of the TV programme "Cue the Music in which many stars including Oasis and Cliff Richard performed

The name plate on a local house made Antoinette feel at home!!

The stained glass window in the Church where the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was baptised provided an ideal location for the Peace Prayer of St Francis.

The local cricket club provided an ideal English Sunday afternoon scene.

The wonderful displays of poppies still in bloom provided a poignant reminder that this is the year of the 100th anniversary of the battle of the Somme
