Greetings Ramblers,

In this programme we are making a start responding to requests that dated events be publicised in the ramble programme. You WIll find in date order on the ramble list various items that take place on particular dates.

As we approach the millennium we leave behind 69 years of rambling and look forward to celebrating the 70th anniversary in 2000. There is a great history to the club, as members who recently purchased a copy of the history
of the club will know. We thank all members who were involved down through the years and who worked so hard to keep the club going.
I would like to thank everyone for their support over the last five years during my term as secretary. Wishing all members a Happy Christmas and New Year.

ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC RAMBLERS' CLUB

MlNUTTES OF THE 69th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
SATURDAY 9th OCTOBER 1999 at 3PM

Refreshments were provided by Helen Hunt and Peter Lobo and were served to members on arrival from 2.30pm.

Paul Brunning thanked everyone for coming. He opened the meeting with the Prayer of St Francis and prayers for the victims of last Tuesday's train crash.

Apologies for absence were received from: Fr David Barnes, Betty Morrison, Mary Hennessey, Mike Hoffman, Ranald Watson, Phil Carolan, Frank Crowley, Madeleine Lawrence, John & Genevieve Geary, Antoinette Ratnam, Bridget Brunning, Madeleine Lane, Philip Evans, Angela Shardlow.

Minutes of 1998 AGM: Dorothy Hickman said §10 line 8 should read 'the V.P. ...helps to preserve the spirit of the Club' not 'the VP.... helps to preserve the constitution of the Club'.

The minutes of the 68th AGM with this amendment were agreed.

There were no matters arising from the minutes.

Secretary's Report: The Secretary's report was given and accepted; a copy is attached. Anyone who wants to go on the Aylesford weekend but has not yet booked should now book directly with Aylesford. Maureen Cahalane said the Club History Book was very amusing and gives a potted history of the Club.

Treasurer's Report: Copies of the accounts have been given out. Thirty members lapsed but many came back. Membership increased by 11. Life membership has also increased. No costs were incurred for the Christmas party as the venue was free; the profit was made on the raffle. Low turnout caused the loss on the Summer Party, this loss was not too great because those who came supported the raffle generously.

Matters arising from Treasurer's Report: The low turnout at the Summer Party was discussed. Was it due to location (Clapham)? Some members thought it was easier to get to than some places in Central London. Helen said they were pleased to find such a good venue at a reasonable price. Do we need a Summer Party? Many who attend are less active members, they
need a place to meet - perhaps a tea party. Was the music too loud for conversation? A CD unit would have been insufficient as it was a large hall. Helen suggested members should make their views known to the Committee. Bridie Barry said membership enquiries had inexplicably dropped off at the beginning of Summer. John Lawrence had been unable to audit the accounts because Maddie's illness detained them in Italy. Tony Finnegan had filled the breach. The accounts had John's name provisionally on them but the meeting agreed that Tony's name should be on them. Tony complimented Gillian on the way the records had been kept. He said the Club is in a healthy position with £1000 annual income/expenditure and £3000 in the bank; there are 174 subscription paying members and 53 Life Members. Gillian thanked Tony for his help.

Election of new Committee: Paul Brunning resigned as Vice-President at the meeting. Helen was willing to stand as Vice-President, nominated by Bridie Barry. Gillian McLauchlan was willing to continue as Treasurer. Paul Connolly was willing to contiinue as Ramble List Compiler. Jo Lewis-Evans, John Burbage, Robert Slater, Francis O'Sullivan, Bridie Barry and
Maria Darroch were nominated as Committee Members. There being no other candidates they were duly elected. No one was willing to be Secretary. Bridie pointed out it was our own fault we are in this position, we have kept using Helen as she did a very good job. The role of Secretary was discussed. The Secretary holds the reins, brings everything together, is Club
contact; others can help with events, any typing and drawing up the Newsletter. It was decided that Helen continue as a 'contact Secretary' for the time being but that her duties should be taken over at the first meeting of the new Committee. Margaret Moran thanked Helen for all her work as Club Secretary.

Any Other Business: It was suggested that the Club arrange a Mass for Daphne Fisk's mother.Paul Brunning said the new Committee should arrange this. Maureen Furlong had been to see Angela Shardlow who had recently had an operation, she had recovered from this and been given the all-clear but would not be able to walk for some time. Phil Carolan' s sister has recently died. It was thought useful to have Masses and events listed in the appropriate place on the ramble list as well as being mentioned in the newsletter. It was suggested that there should be a mention of the Club and the intention at a Club Mass, but sometimes the Celebrant could forget this.
One member asked if there could be more short rambles. Paul Connolly said people should come up with shorter rambles, he did not have an excess of rambles but had to ring round to fill up the Ramble List. It was suggested that when there were say 3 long rambles in a row there could be a shorter one as an alternative on one of the days. It was suggested that there were
people willing to do shorter rambles on stand by if needed but Paul said there had never been any need to turn rambles away.

John Lawrence and Tony Finnegan were appointed as auditors for the coming year.

Gillian asked if anyone had current addresses for Anthony Clarkson, Philip Groves and Kay Armstrong as post addressed to them had been returned.
The meeting finished at 4.20.
