Club Pilgrimage and Mass: Aylesford Priory (“The Friars”) (OS Explorer 148)
Meet: London Victoria at 0830 for 0855 train to Maidstone East (arr. 0957)
Lunch: The Barn at Aylesford Priory. Or Pubs and Restaurant options in
the village
Tea: Before leaving Aylesford Priory
Distance: 7 miles. A leisurely, contemplative amble along the River Medway
to Aylesford Priory (3.5 flat miles), returning to Maidstone by the
same route
For those who wish to take the bus, Arriva 155 Chatham service
stops outside Maidstone East station at 10.11 and 11.11 and at
the entrance to the Priory, Please check it is the Aylesford bus.
Journey time: 20 minutes. From the Priory return buses are 15.14,
16.14, and 17.14. The Midday mass will be said for the club’s
intentions, remembering our deceased and sick members, and
our members who not able to join us on walks. After lunch we will
have prayer in a chapel, and some free time. Call Roger for

Distance: 14 miles returning from Leighton Buzzard

heathland, woodland and Rushmere Country Park viewing point

Meet: St Pancras 0910 for 0937 high speed train to Dover Priory (arr.
1041).
Also calls at Stratford International 0943 and Ashford

Lunch: There will be a short mid-day refreshment break (bring your own
snack). Fish and chip supper at Sea View restaurant and
takeaway in Deal, at approximately 4.30pm
Distance: 11 miles returning from Deal. Some hills and steep steps to climb
Fare: High Speed train £22.40 return with Network card. Other travel
options available, however, walk will commence from Dover
Priory station at 10.45 prompt

Meet: Baker Street 0900 for 0920 Metropolitan line to Chesham (arr.
1014).
Train starts from Aldgate at 0901 and calls Liverpool Street 0903
and Kings Cross 0912
Lunch: The Black Horse Inn, The Vale, Chesham
Tea: Let’s see…
Distance: 10.5 miles ramble skirting the outer fringes of Chesham: some
hills, some stiles and great views. Expect some muddy paths
after wet weather. Returning from Chesham

Distance: 9 miles, returning from Ramsgate. The walk is mostly along the
cliff top path with views over the channel, with several secluded
coves

Lunch: The Park Gate Inn near Eyhorne Street. Picnic area with cafe nearby
Tea: Possibly in Harrietsham
Distance: 11 varied miles. The morning walk is very hilly but with fine views
and will be taken at a brisk pace. The afternoon is gentler and
includes a walk through the beautiful grounds of Leeds Castle

Summer News and Events
Items for the next programme by early July please
Refugee Tales walk : Saturday 6th to Wednesday 10th July 2019
This is a walk from Brighton to Hastings staying en route at Lewes, Alfriston, Eastbourne, and Bexhill. There will be entertainment during the day and evening with talks and with music.
The overnight accommodation may be fully booked, however, you can come and walk on one of the days but you have to book through their website. The price for a day pilgrim is £10.

Spirit in the City 2019 - Friday 31st May and Saturday 1st June.
The theme this year is "Life to the Full". "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full" The Spirit in the City festival aims to share the Good News of God’s love with everyone. Located in Leicester Square, the festival welcomes people of all faiths, ages, and walks of life. The events feature live music, workshops, faith conversations, opportunities for prayer and reconciliation, and much more. Some of our club members attend this festival every year. Thursday 20th June - Visit to Arundel Cathedral to see the Carpet of Flowers
Leader: Maurice Hickman
Catch the 10.06 train from Victoria to Arundel (arrives 11.28).
Fare: £20.80 with railcards or buy two advance tickets for £6.60.
Walk one mile to Cathedral to see the Carpet of Flowers. Refreshments in Cathedral Hall and then a 3 mile walk through Arundel park past the tower and Swanbourne Lake, or if bad weather, pay a visit to the castle. There is a 5.30 Mass in the Cathedral followed by a Blessed Sacrament Procession to Arundel Castle for Benediction. Tea in Arundel.
Maurice will join the party en-route.
St Hilda's Pilgrimage Saturday 10th to Sunday 25th August 2019
This year the Pilgrimage will start from Lincoln Cathedral and finish up at Whitby.
Accommodation is mainly in church and village halls so you have to bring your own bedding and sleeping bag. The cost of the whole pilgrimage is under £200 which includes breakfast and evening meals, and transport of your personal items. If you wish you can book for any section of the pilgrimage and are thus not limited to coming for the whole two weeks.
Lunch is usually at a pub. There will be two rest days at Brigg and Bridlington.
Maurice will be leading one day from North Ferriby, near Hull, to Beverley and Francis O’Sullivan the next day from Beverley to Driffield. Please go to www.thepilgrims.org.uk for more information.

Saturday 19th October - AGM and Mass for Deceased Members
Anew committee will be elected at the AGM. If you have not served before, please give it serious consideration. The future of the Club depends on members being willing to serve.
Remember no committee no Club. In the next programme a nomination form will appear but now is the time to seek out nominations, however, please approach who you wish to nominate first to make sure that they will be willing to stand. The AGM will be followed by Mass at 6pm for the Deceased Members of the Club.
