Hello Ramblers,

As I write this programme the sun is shining. I am sure you are looking forward to the summer rambles and the long, bright evenings

Committee membership:
At this point Iwould ask you to think about serving on the committee next term. I am sure there are a few members who have a lot to offer the club.
The AGM is in October and you can contact any committee member if you would like to put your name forward.

Summer Party: Our Summer party will be held in St Saviours Church Hali in Pimlico on Saturday 26th July. Tickets £3 each to cover the cost of the hall and music, will be on sale from all committee members or on the door. Bring
food to share and your own drink. Music is by "Colour Splash". We would welcome any prizes for the raffle. The party starts at 7pm till 11pm. The hall will be open from 4pm if members would like to leave in food or prizes for  the raffle. 'There is a Mass at the Holy Apostles Church in Pimlico at 6pm. The previous parties have been a great success and we hope to continue this trend.

Cardinal Hume's interest in the Club: I recently received a letter from Rev
Charles Wookey, Archbishop's House, Westminster. He was writing on behalf of Cardinal Basil Hume who is Patron of the St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic Ramblers Club. The Cardinal likes to keep up to date on the club activities and annual reports. I forwarded the information requested on behalf of the club. Ialso informed our President Fr. David Barnes and sent him a copy of the letter which he acknowledged.

Monthly dinners: Club members meet on the first Saturday of each month for a meal at a Central London Restaurant (not too expensive). The next three will be June 7th. July 5th. August 2nd. Please note that in future the meeting place will be outside Westminster Cathedral after the 6 PM Mass. CONTACT MARGARET MORAN for further details.

August Weekend In Yorkshire: Frank and Anne Keating are organising a weekend in Skipton and surrounding areas on August 22nd 23rd and 24th. If any member is interested they can get in touch with Frank and Anne after the 2 t st of July. (they will be on holiday till then. I can personally
recommend this weekend.

Walking Holiday In BavariaPaul Connolly regrets that due to his current employment situation he has bad to cancel the holiday announced in the
last newsletter.

Advance Notice: Club Holiday, Bourton on The Water23rd May to 30th May 1998. Ester Harris has booked 44 places at the Holiday Fellowship
house and if all are filled there will be no supplements to pay. The price of the holiday will be known by May 1997. Deposit for holiday is £25 payable
by September 13th to Ester Harris,

Day Of Recollection: This year was held at the Benedictine Centre For Spirituality in Cockfosters. Members who attended found the day spiritually
refreshing. It would be good to see more members on the next day of recollection.

Request for volunteersThe club has been asked to .provide volunteers to collect in connection with the September "Children's Day" Flag Day. Some of the money collected is for the benefit of the Westminster Diocesan Children's' Society. Some members may remember taking a voluntary
collection for this Society when Geoff and Marion Miller entertained us to tea on a St Alban's Ramble. That contribution was much appreciated and any
members who would like to help further may contact me for further details.

Fare reductions with Network Southeast Cards and Travel Cards: Don't forget when buying your ticket to go on a ramble always tell the ticket
clerk if you have either a Network Southeast Card or a Travel Card. You can
nearly always save something both at Underground Stations when buying an all zone Travel Card and at Rail Stations buying either a single or return
ticket. But rail-ticket clerks are not required to tell you about this so it is up to you to ask.

TIps for New Ramblers: At  the last AGM a suggestion was made that all new ramblers get a standard information pack. The committee have considered this and agreed to try the foldover leaflet a copy of which is
enclosed with this newsletter. If you are introducing friends to the club please ask them to read the leaflet before they ramble. Members of the committee can supply extra copies. We welcome any suggestions for improving the leaflet, bearing in mind that the number of pages has to be kept within sensible limits.

Maxine O'Reilly's latest performance: Many members of the club will have seen Maxine O'Reilly, also a member of the club, performing on stage, including her take-off of Margaret Thatcher which she performed at the 60th anniversary celebration. She is currently performing in "DA" by Hugh Leonard at the White Bear Theatre, 136 Kennington Park Road. Tickets are £7 (concs. £5). Performances are Tuesday-Sunday until 8th June at 8pm. So if you want to go and support her you will need to act quickly. Box Office:

Arundel and Brighton Ecumenical Walking Pilgrimage

The Saint Augustine of Canterbury Pilgrimage August 1997

This is from Saturday 9 August to Sunday 24 August 1997. The Pilgrimage will be from Chichester to Canterbury. We will walk up to 17 miles each day. However all our excess luggage will be carried for us in a van and we only need to take what we require for the day. We sleep overnight on the floors of schools and church halls but we are allowed to bring a mat or airbed and a sleeping bag to make sleeping on floors more comfortable. A lady with the
help of several assistants does the cooking each day for the breakfast and evening meal. The cost for the whole Pilgrimage including the return coach is £150. However, you are not restricted to coming on the whole Pilgrimage but can do a week or a few days if you wish. For more information contact Maurice Hickman
