Bunhill Row, E.C.1. for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Preston Frank's Mother).

 

SUNDAY, MARCH 10th   Annual Retreat at the Convent of La Retraite,

Atkins Road, Clapham Park, S.W.12. The Retreat will be given by Father F.X.P. Thoburn, S.D.B.. The cost will be approximately 11/­- which includes lunch and tea. The day will commence at 11 a.m. with the first conference followed by Holy Nass at 12 noon.

HOW TO GET THERE! Nearest station, CLAPHAMS0UTH, Northern Line, about 20/30 minutes journey from BANK or CHARING CROSS. Leaving 'the station exit, cross the ma'in road and turn right (Balham Hill),

take 5th turning on left, DINSM0RE ·ROAD wlalk dovm Dirismore Road

to Cavendish Road and Atkins Road is almost opposite. The entrance to the Convent is on the right hand side..

EASTER WEEKEND_- 12th - 15th April    This year the Club is to  spend the Easter Holiday in the Mendips, Somerset. We travel on Friday    morning arid the total cost of the weekend will be approximately £6. We shall be.spending the weekend at Cheddar You Hostel and hone to visit Wells,· Glastonbury, C!heddar Gorge and caves and Wookey Hall, combined with  some pleasant downland walking. 1f you are interested, pl-eare. contact Richard Sumner, with a £2 deposit. before February 29th. Members who. wish to· book hotel accommodation are asked to get in touch either with Richard. or the Secretary who hold a list of guest houses,.

 SATURDAY, MAY 11th·-- CHILDREN'S PARTY For the children of past

and present members, a party will be held at Bunhill Row. The Secretary will be pleased to supply details to parents who would   like to bring their children along.  Offers of food and help on the day will be gratefully received.

AUSTRIA ·- GOLLING, from Satturday, August 24th unitil Saturday, September 7th. The cost will be approzimately £38 to £40. Golling is situated about 14 miles from Salzburg. In Golling itself there is a Catholic Church, swimming pool, tennis courts, minigolf, cinema, pastry shops, restaurents and cafes which provide dancing in the evening and 29 inns!!! The surrounding countryside provides good walking facilities.

ADVERTISING· As part of our advertising campaign we have had some. new handbills printed giving details about the Club. le. hope to arrange to have these displayed in churches in the Westminster diocese. We are also enclosing two handbills with each list so that members can pass them on to Catholic friends and acquaintances. who would like to know more about the. Club. Pehaps members. can also arrange, with the permission of their Parish Priest to have the handbills displayed in their own churches ·

(EXCEPT WESTMlNSTER). 

 

 It was with great reluctance that we decided during December last to abandon rambling until further notice because of the alarming spread of foot and mouth disease. The secretary has kept in touch with the Ministry of Agriculture and by the time this list reaches you, all restrictions will have been lifted from the counties in which we ramble. Our Sunday rambles as shown on the list  will be resumed on March 3rd.                                                         .                         ..,.,.

Our sincere thanks to all those members who arranged sutstitute rambles at very short·notice and.saved the Secretary from having ulcers!) ,.          .

THURSDAY    ANNUAL SQUARE DANCE. This was a "stupendous"              9th MAY          evening lest year and this time we have been very fortunate                            in obtaining the same band and the same hall.. Come along                            to the Notre Dame de France .Hall, Leicester Square                                      and.dance_to_Francis Hawkins and."The Kent Cobs Band"                            from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

                        Tickets 5/6 can be obtained from the members of the Social                             Committee.

SATURDAY      Marie Huth has booked a coach for us to visit Thaxted for 18th MAY          the annual MORRIS MEET. The coach departs from                                        FINSBURY SQUARE at 1.15 p.m aarriving in Thaxted in                                time for tea and the dancing which starts at 5.00 p.m. We                                leave at 7 p.m. to arrive in Finsbury Square at 9 p.m. The                                cost of the coach will be 10/- (this includes a tip to the                                      driver).

TUESDAY           A talk by Rev. Father A.J. Cronin. Father will be pleased to 21st May             speak on any subjects that we would like. To assist him to                                arrange the evening, please let Meg Walsh have any

                            suggestions for suitable subjects by Tuesday, 30th April,

                            These will be re-directed to Father.

 

SATURDAY          A visit to the Bluebell Line and to Sheffield Park Gardens,  25th MAY             arranged by Dorothy & Mary Hickman. Please meet at                                     Victoria Station at 10 am. for the 10.20 a.n. train to

                             Haywards Heath (fare 12/-). Bring a packed lunch. There                                 will be a 5 mile walk to the Park (admission 2/6). Return                                 on the Bluebell 'Line (fare Approx, 12/-) to Horsted                                           Keynes, then by bus to Haywards Heath.

 

SUNDAY              Coach ramble to LEONARDSLEE GARDENS. Meet at      26th MAY              Eldon Street, 10.45 a.m. for coach departure at 11.00 a.m.

WHITSUN WEEKEND. May 32st to June 2nd Jenny Ovenell has booked for

us at Swanage Youth Bostel, Dorset. The total cost including the fare will be approximately £5. Full details can be obtained from Jenny.

 

It is proposed to arrange a weekend visit to Liverpool either on 4th.May or 22nd June: .Further details will be announced later.
