New Committee

We welcome Robert Slater back on the committee who will be resuming his work on Club publicity.  Barbara Bridle has come off the committee and we welcome a new person on to the committee - Noelle de Freitas  We wish her well in whatever task she takes up.  Gillian can now be contacted by email.  See above for that address.  The committee always welcomes new members.  If you haven't served on it before please think about serving on it.

Think About Getting Your Newsletter by Email

More members have been signing up to get their newsletter by email.  If you would like to help the Club out by receiving your newsletter in this way, please contact Maurice or another member of the committee.  Printing and postage costs are very high.  This cost is even higher if we have to send out addenda to cover rambles which are submitted late. Advantages of receiving the newsletter by email are:  getting it early, receiving last minute details of walks(e.g. rambles such as for 6th of January which could not be arranged in time for the current newsletter) and latest news items concerning what is happening on the Club scene.

News and Forthcoming Events

Requiescant in Pace

It is with great sadness that the death of Paul Button, Michael Dunne, Helen O'Brien, and Kathleen Toohig past members and fairly active members in their time.  Many older members will have memories of Paul Button who was quite a quiet spoken man but well known by Club members during the time when he was active in the Club. He died on the 19th of June. Michael Dunne was married to Jean Johns in 1966. Kathleen Toohig joined the Club shortly after the war and was married to Dennis whom she met in the Club.  Helen was a much more recent member who many current members of the Club knew.  She died on the 10th of September and a Requiem Mass was held for her on the  17th of September.  A Club Mass for her will be held on Monday 3rd December at 1.05 pm in Westminster Cathedral.

Annual Reunion - Saturday 29th September 2012

A heartfelt Thank You to all who did so much to make this year’'s Reunion another happy event in the life of the Club.

We are very grateful to Fr. Peter Newby for the use of St. Mary Moorfields hall and its facilities.  This venue where the Club began 83 years ago, is very dear to our hearts, not least by those who come long distances to be with us.  Thank you Father Peter.  Many thanks also to those who sent in greetings, remembrances and warm wishes to be passed on.  These were much appreciated.

Now we look forward to 2013, D.V.

Anne and Maureen

Father Peter Newby

Congratulations to Father Peter Newby on having completed 10 years as president of the Club.

As far as can be remembered the parish priest of St Mary Moorfields in the city of London has always been the president of the Club.  In recognition of this 10 years of service to the Club Father Peter was presented with some Italian wine.  He is to be made a Canon of Westminster Cathedral in January.  Fortunately for us he will still be living in the presbytery at St. Mary Moorfields.
