OBITUARY

We are deeply sorry to announce the deaths of two of our Life Members, John Ashboume and Sheila Mulvaney. John was already an established member of the club when membership records began to be kept in 1939. In 1952 he married Joan and they remained faithful members of the Club until John's death in September 1997. Their daughter, Mrs Teresa Clifford, tells me that Joan is now in very poor health but if any members of the Club wish to write to her it would be very welcome.

Club History: Those who were at the AGM will know that work is still pressing ahead on the book project. Dorothy Hickman and others are collecting lots of interesting details to write up. But there are some gaps which you may be able to fill. So if you are a long standing member or know
someone who is no longer a member you may be able to supply details about some of the following:

The Coleman Street Ward School, Copthall Avenue, near London Wall and Club events held there before the War;

Other activities before the War;

Club activities during the War;

Why St Joseph's, Bunhill Row was not used in 1949;

How the Club managed before it got the record player in 1954;

Why we could not use Providence Row after 1978. Was large hall divided into classrooms?

Did Mgrs Goulder and Stark of the Guild of Our Lady of Ransom lead walking tours of London just for us, or did we join the public ones;

The organisation and catering for the Golden and Diamond Jubilees. Who concelebrated the Masses;

Links with the Little Club and any other Club.

Any information on these or any other historical aspects of the club will be very welcome. You can post them to me and I will ensure that they are fed in.

Donations to Assisi Earthquake Fund:
The AGM decided that we should put £100 of club funds towards the relief of Assisi following the recent devastating earthquake. if individual members of the club would like to boost our contribution please send me cheques payable to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Ramblers' club as soon as possible.
I will send off a single cheque to reach Assisi before Christmas.

Advance notice - visit to Althorp: Maurice Hickman is hoping to organise
a rambling week-end around Althorp, the burial place of Diana Princess of Wales, around the end of May next year. Please ring Maurice i f you would be interested. No commitment required at this stage but he would like an indication of numbers and would welcome any views of members about the
week-end.

Items for next programme should reach·the secretary or ramble list
compiler by the end of January

Happy Rambling

RAMBLE LIST AND NEWS DECEMBER 1997 - FEBRUARY 1998

JUST A FEW WORDS TO SAY I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY TENURE AS RAMBLE LIST COMPILER AND LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTRIBITIONS TO FUTURE PROGRAMMES.

ON THE SUBJECT OF FUTURE PROGRAMMES THERE ARE A SMALL NUMBER OF MEMBERS WHO MAKE GREAT EFFORTS TO ENSURE THERE ARE WALKS ON ALL THE SUNDAYS AND A LARGE DEBT OF GRATITUDE IS OWED TO THEM, BUT WE ARE ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR NEW LEADERS EVEN IF THEY HAVE NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF 'OLD HANDS" WHO ARE VERY HAPPY TO ASSIST MEMBERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO PUT ON A WALK BUT WHO NEED GUIDANCE ON HOW TO TAKE THOSE FIRST FEW STEPS AND JOIN THE RANKS OF RAMBLE LEADERS.

SOME POINTS TO PONDER:
