SOME EVENTS FOR YOUR DIARY

 

CHILDRENS' PARTY: The very popular annual party for the children of present and past members takes plaoe at St. Joseph's School, Bunhill Row, on Saturday May 12th at 3 p.m. The oost this year has been fixed at 30p per family, All the dads and mums we know about have now received an invitation from Kath Holland who is once again in oharge of arrangements. If you have not received yours you and your family are still very welcome to oome. Just write to Kath and tell her you are coming and how many adults and children are in your family party, 

 

SPRING BANK HOLIDAY: Visit to Hadrians wall and Homeland of St, Bede. (May 25 - 28) Members wishing to take part in this week-end are advised to contact Mary Walsh. Details are as follows:

 

FRIDAY travel from Kings Oross to Newcastle by either the 1800 or 1900 train, arriving Newcastle upon Tyne at 2130 or 2255 respectively,weekend ret. £6.30 Stay overnight at Newcastle Y.W.C.A./Y.M.C.A.

 

SATURDAY on to Hexham (Fare 25p by train or 20p by bus)

Stay Sat. and Sun. night at Acomb Youth Hostel (close to the wall) Return to Newcastle on Monday morning.

Travel back to Kings Cross by 1505 train (arrives 1931 - Bank Holiday services than on other days)

ANNUAL VISIT TO ST. BEDE'S, CROXLEY GREEN

 

This very popular event takes place this year on June 17th. For the newcomer, we have a short ramble followed by an excellent tea at St, Bede's Churoh Hall as guests of Father John Clayton. After tea we have Mass and then country dancing, weather permitt­ing in the open air. A collection will be made of about 30p to cover cost of food and a small donation to St. Bede's church, Bring knife, fork, spoon, dancing shoes.

 

ANNUAL OUTING TO THE SEA

 

This year the Club is visiting Littlehampton, and, in an event to attract the more active members, there will be an optional ramble of about 5 miles from Arundel. Details on ramble list.

 

SOCIALS AT BUNHILL ROW . Following the appeal in the last list there has been no sign of any increase in the numbers of members coming to Bunhill Row we have been compelled to raise the charge per evening to 20p per person, starting from June 12th. Starting on the Same day there will be a new incentive-to--uome scheme. A draw will be made during the interval fi'om a box containing the names of all paid up members, If the owner of

the name drawn out is present he or she will receive £1. So, after paying your 20p, you are left with 80p profit. Be sure to come every time, or you may miss your chance.

LATE SUMMER BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

A weekend at Sheringham (Aug 24th – 27th

Maurice Hickman is planning to go to the Youth Hostel at Sheringham this year, and will leave  on the 6.40 p,m. Cromer train from Liverpool Street Station on the Friday night. If you are interested in joining his party contact him at his home address.

The total cost will be about £8.00.

OUT AND ABOUT (JUNE)

 

Sat 2nd VISIT TO FOLKSTONE

A visiit to Folkestone combined with a trip on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway.

 

Meet Charing Cross at 10.00 for 10.10 train to Folkestone. (£2 Awayday).

Alight at Westenhanger Walk to Hythe (4 miles)  for lunch (refreshments available) then take

                     train at 13.30  for  

Organised    New Romney, arr.             by               14.05, return at            Oswald       15.30. 

Bus to Folkestone for return train home.

 

Sat 9th VISIT TO ABERYSTWYTH

 

A very cheap trip (Merrymaker) to visit Vale of Rheidol narrow gage steam railway (12 mile scenic ride) and Abberystwyth, Early booking is essential and those interested should reserve their places with British Rail immediately, Fare is only £1.90 return and Ossie is again in charge of arrangements. Meet him on the train.

Sat 7th VISIT TO  KNOWLE PARK

A day out to visit stately Home  including a walk of about 4 miles in park,

Sat 14th    POLESDEN LACY THEATRE

Maurice Hickman is leading a ramble of about 7 miles ending at  Polesden Lacy  Open Air  Theatre for a performanoe of  St. Joan (by George Bernard Shaw). Tickets available from him ay 45p each.

This  wiill be our last meeting at Bunhill Row before September,

Before the dance (at 7.30 p,m.) there will be Holy Mass celebrated in St. Joseph's Church for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Runacres, mother of our founder member, Mrs. Mary Morgan who died recently aged 92. In the early days of the Club many meetings were held in her house, so we have good cause to be grateful to her, DO PLEASE COME

 

24th RAMBLE led by Madeleine Lawrence. A pleasant evening stroll through the grounds around Hampton Court Palace and Bushy Park, £ollowed by a drink.

Meet Kingston Station to move off 6,45 p.m.  Trains from Waterloo 6.04 & 6,16 p.m.)

This event postponed from May 1st. when it was cancelled due to the Mayday strike

TUESDAY EVENTS

 

There are no meetings at:Bunhill Row during August. It is hoped to arrange outside visits in conjunction with the "Open Air Entertainments" booklet published by the G.L.C., but at the time of running off this has not been published.

 

If you wish to know whnat has been arranged please contact Daphne at her home address. 

 

Perhaps you would like to arrange an evening outing for the Club. If so, Daphe would be pleased to hear from you.

 

Asthe programme is fixed, details will be given out at Bunhill Row ( up to July 10) and on rambles.

 

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

 

This year the Annual General Meeting will e held on Tuesday Ootober 9th at 8 p,m. and will be preceeded by Holy Mass for the intentions of Club members in St. Joseph's Church at 7.30 p.m.

All motions, and nominations £or Secretary, Treasurer and other Committee members must be received by the Secretary not later

than Sept. 25th. 

NOW IS THE TIME to make up your mind what you are willing to do for the Club next year, Please don't leave it all to the other members. They are leaving it to you.
