ANNUAL CLUB MASSES AND COACH OUTING
As previously announced, the Annual Club Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Moorfields Eldon Street, E.C,2, on Sunday September 30th at 9.30 a.m. This is a week earlier than usual and as a result the Secretary has received a letter pointing out that the date of this Mass has been fixed by the rules of the club as the Sunday within the octave of the feast of St, Francis and should not therefore have been brought forward. The change was made, of course, with the best of intentions and the Secretary apologies to members for overlooking that the date was mandatory. To make amends and also to accommodate those members who may have kept free the usual date (October 7th) so that they would be able to attend the Mass it has been arranged that the 9.30 a.m. Mass at St, Mary Moorfields on this day will also be offered for the intentions of members and the welfare of the club. It is hoped that as many as possible wiil be able to attend both Masses (for the Club has never been in greater need of divine assistance) and that the great majority will be able to come to one or the other. The coach outing is on September 30th and the coach will leave at 10.30 a.m. from outdide the church following Mass, and will stop for lunch at Poynings for one hour en route. Frorn here members will have the choice of continuing on the coach to Brighton or enjoying a short ramble over the South Downs led by Richard Sumner. The setting down point in Brighton is the Royel Pavilion, recently called "the most beautiful bailding in Europe if not in the world", and certainly the most dazzling and exotic 'in the British Isles. Much of the original furniture has been returned by Her Majesty the Queen from Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and the return of this splendid collection marks a new era in the history of the building as a past Royal residence and in its significance as a monument of the Regency period and of Royal encouragement in the appreciation of the arts. For the return journey the coach leaves the Royal Pavilion at 7 p,m, sharp and members are asked to be in their seats by 6.45 p.m. The coach fare is £€1.00 and you may reserve your place by forwarding this amount to John Lawrence or, subject to there being room (almost certain) you may pay on the coach.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Members are reminded that nominations for the new Committee to be elected at this meeting on October 9th sgould be sent to the Secretary immedintely. The Club cannot function without a Committee and it is hoped every member will consider most carefully helping the Club by accepting nomination. Do not be content to leave it all to someone else, that someone else has already decided to leave it to you!! WEEK-END AT HOLY CROSS PRIORY, HEATHFIELD October 14th to 16th If you want to come on this weekend, please lot Dorothy Hickman know as soon as possible, as accommodation is limlited.
