November 1993

As a result of the AGM on Saturday 6 October a new committee has been formed. Our names are on the back cover.

We thank the outgoing members for their support for the Club during the past year. Hope to continue the good work.

Due to the interest shown in training and encouraging new ramble leaders we plan to have some formal training during the year. There will be map reading sessions and learner ramble sessions. Watch this space.

For the moment, however, a reminder to bring a torch on the winter rambles.
While most rambles finish in daylight this is not always possible.

A note for your diary - THE CHRISTMAS PARTY IS PLANNED FOR SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 1994. It promises to be a very enjoyable evening - good music, shared food, good company. Bring your friends. All are welcome. DON'T MISS IT.

Happy Christmas,

Peace Prayer of St Francis

Lord make me an instrument of Your peace

          Where there is hatred, let me sow

           love;
           Where there is injury, pardon;

           Where there is doubt, faith;

           Where there is despair, hope;

           Where there is darkness, light;

           Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that  I may not so much seek

To be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

it is in dying ... that we are born to eternal life. Amen

Note for website - The minutes of the 64th Agm held on 8 October 1994 do not appear to have been circulated with the Winter programme but can be read below:

ST FRANCIS OF ASSIS CATHOLIC RAMBLERS CLUB

Minutes of the 64th Annual General Meeting held in Holy Apostles Church Hall an Saturday 8 October 1994.

Refreshments were served and the meeting commenced at 3 pm. 35 members were welcomed by the Vice President Paul Brunning who chaired the meeting. Sandra Mantella from the Mid Herts group was also welcomed. The St Francis Prayer was recited.

Apologies for absence were received from the Moran family, Daphne Fisk, Anne Alcock, Winnie Hawthorn, Rita Mochen, Judy Kelly and Tony Finnegan.

The minutes from the 63rd AGM were accepted as read. There were no matters arising from the minutes.

The Secretary’s report was given and accepted. The committee (Paul Brunning , Terry Dobson, Olivia Delargy, Philip Evans, Frances Kershaw, Helen Hunt, Peter Lobo, Peter MacDonald, and Mary Hennessy had met five times during the year.

Advertising was discussed at the first meeting. All Club members received a printed notice for their Parish Notice Board. A notice was also put in Westminster Directory and a notice was planned to appear in the next edition of the Southwark Directory. During the year 99 enquiries were received. 37 new members joined the club during the year.

Two parties were organised during the year. The winter party attracted 60 people and the summer party 45. Music was provided by a disco. Friends and relatives were encouraged to attend.

The committee was pleased with the input for Saturday events especially the large programme in the summer. On the whole they were well supported.

A few theatre outings were planned during the year and another “Crazy for You” was to be booked in January. The monthly dinners continued to be popular and are attended by several members.

Rambles for map reading learners were planned and also a Day of Recollection, the annual Mass for deceased members, the AGM and a Christmas Dinner. Club members arranged holidays and weekend breaks to Killarney (June), Cornwall, Exeter, West Sussex and Brecon Beacons.

It was decided to elect the Secretary and Treasurer at the AGM. It was also agreed after discussion that the previous Ramble List Compiler would produce the list up to January to avoid the situation where the incoming Compiler had to prepare a list within a few weeks.

It was also discussed whether ramble leaders’ telephone numbers should be on the list. It was agreed that this would be done with the consent of the leader. The question of whether to appoint a duty member should be left to the ramble leader as it was the responsibility of the leader to ensure that slow walkers did not get lost.

The Treasurer gave his report and it was accepted at the meeting. It was agreed that the subscription should be raised to £4 from next year. It was agreed that the auditors for next year would be John Lawrence and Peter Lobo.

The new committee Helen Hunt (Secretary), Kevin Doyle (Treasurer), Paul Brunning, Maurice Hickman, Terry Dobson, Peter MacDonald, Frances Kershaw, Caroline Nolan and Catherine Scott were elected.

The meeting was closed.
