Leo joined the club in membership year 1971 - 72 and was a regular rambler for the next few years. In 1972 he joined the Social Sub Committee and for two years he was active in that role, giving the club the benefit of his keen interest in folk dancing. He introduced me to the Cecil Sharp Folk Centre which, although I did not realise it at the time, is world famous in the world of Folk music and dancing.

I met him during my first sojourn as a club member in the early 1970s. Shortly after I temporarily ceased rambling Leo joined the Divine Word Missionaries and during the years in which he was preparing for the priestly ministry he wrote a series of 20 articles for the club newsletter which up to 1979 was published separately from the quarterly programme. After I rejoined and became an active member I acquired copies of all 20 articles thanks to the meticulous record keeping of our late vice president Fred McAndrew. I have put all of them up on the website and they are regularly viewed by our visitors. I have left them on the main menu for the time being until I work out where would be the best place to put them. In preparation for that exercise I made enquiries about Leo's life after he ceased rambling and after several unsucccessful enquiries I discovered on 18 January 2019 that he had sadly passed on to his eternal reward on 5 February 2005 RIP. So his name now appears on the deceased members list. May he rest in everlasting peace.
